Hi all,

I used cfgedit for modifying config variables, and noticed that sometimes i see msgs to restarts da's, and sometimes not. I was wondering if there is any thumb rule which says that for this particular change you require a restart of da and for some we don't require.

let me know if anyone finds this info.

If you are using cfgedit, when you type the "get" command, it shows the Flags attribute. Below, for example, Flags = RestartNeeded for RESOURCE_NAME

[vcm01:27110]:/vcm-viglet/cdsvcs/stage-Inter/resources/Generic/VgnExtTemp> get RESOURCE_NAME
Run Value: VgnExtTemplating Resource
Config Value:
Default Value:
Revert Value: VgnExtTemplating Resource

Other way, the flag appears into Configuration Console.



This attribute is the flag field on vgnConfigVar table.
0 = No Restart
2 = RestartNeeded

I agree with you, but what I noticed is when I changed a variable using cfgedit.. there was a message to restart da. But without restart the change got reflected. I wondering how can this happen.

Great! Your process was easier, because you didn't restart your environment. But a good practice is always restart, when the system shows this message, because guarantees that the configuration will work in all situations.
